Seven9s is hosting the inaugural re:ipl meetup. As a proponent of modern mainfr-
ame culture, we believe that at this inflection point in mainframe technology
it is time to reinvent how we meet and discuss pertinent topics affecting the
industry. This starts with reinventing how we share knowledge about the mainfra-
me both online and in-person. re:ipl addresses the need for a more user-focused
and fluid meetup model by empowering knowledge sharing in a participant and glo-
bal first model where all are encouraged to participate regardless of level of
expertise and location.

In partnership with the System Z Enthusiasts Discord, we aim to redefine intera-
ction within the mainframe community and the overall technology community. We
focus on the real-time sharing of knowledge by inviting our global audience to
the table by broadcasting all re:ipl events online through the System Z Enthusi-
asts Discord community.
We highly encourage anyone interested in participating in this event to be enga-
ged in our DISCORD COMMUNITY before, during, and after the event to stay connec-

re:ipl is hosted at SPARK KANSAS CITY at the northeast corner of Walnut and Tru-
man. The address is 1475 Walnut Street, Kansas City, MO 64106. Attendees are en-
couraged to use a rideshare (like Uber or Lyft) or walk from the Loew's Hotel.
To get from Loew's to re:ipl, head north on Wyandotte to 14th Street, take a ri-
ght turn. Continue on 14th Street until you reach Walnut and take another right.
You will see Spark on your left when you reach Truman Road.

In the beginning, mainframe user conferences were about sharing code and experi-
ences focused on getting the most out of the system. Over time those sharing se-
ssions gave way to vendor sessions focused mostly on how to take advantage of
their products. These sessions are mostly lecture with users listening to HOWTO
content.
re:ipl is focused on recreating the early user conference experience: users int-
eracting using modern technologies and techniques. Instead of lecture, sessions
will be discussions, incorporating the ideas and perspectives of the entire aud-
ience. Instead of an agenda picked out for the community, discussions revolve
around attendees' interests.
The time has come for the mainframe community to return to its roots, work coll-
ectively to address problems, build solutions, and network in the 21st century.

HOW DO I REGISTER FOR RE:IPL?
Registration is not required for either virtual or in person attendance. To att-
end re:ipl follow the instructions below for how you want to join.
HOW DO I JOIN VIRTUALLY?
Simply join DISCORD when the event kicks off and you're free to participate in
the event. See our document HERE for more details about what to do once you're
in!
HOW DO I JOIN IN PERSON?
re:ipl Kicks off at Spark Kansas City (1475 W Walnut St, Kansas City, MO) @ 7p
Central US. We have room for 75 people and have planned food, drink, and swag
for that count. If you would like to partake, we recommend you arrive on time
(we'll likely let you in early if you turn up early). We will be recommending
the folks monitoring the doors of the venue that once we have run out of pins
(75 of those, they are numbered) we will start suggesting people not be allowed
into the event. We will try and monitor the flow of folks. Respectfully, we ask
that you do not make our hosts (Spark Kansas City) regret hosting us by going o-
ver our numbers. Food, drink, and swag are first come, first served.
HOW DO I HOST A BREAKOUT?
Breakout slots are given in a first come, first served basis. We have two break-
out rooms available. Refresh the schedule HERE and see the below question for
how to book a breakout slot for your topic. In person attendees are encouraged
to use DISCORD to book a breakout.
HOW DO I BOOK A BREAKOUT SLOT?
To book a breakout, first join the #chat channel on DISCORD. Once joined, you
will send a message requesting to book a slot by providing the time, the room,
and your topic. That message might look something like this:
> Hi there, I'd like to book Breakout #1 at 800P to talk about "Getting Along on
> Z"!
A helpful re:ipl Virtual Volunteer will book the slot for you and confirm that
you are set to host that space. Once your slot begins, make your way to the
breakout space, and follow our HANDY GUIDE to being a hospitable breakout host.
HOW DO I PARTICIPATE IN A BREAKOUT?
Participating in a breakout is as simple as looking at the SCHEDULE, figuring
out which breakout room is hosting the topic you want to join and either going
to that room in person, or joining the stage channel virtually by clicking on
it.
Once in the room, either speak in turn as you would any other respectful conver-
sation, or use the Discord interface to "Request to Speak" and you will be brou-
ght on stage to share your thoughts. Once you've shared your thoughts, be sure
to "Leave the Stage" to return to the audience until you have something further
to add to the conversation.
